Missions in 2025

January

Rise Against Hunger • January 26, 2025

What an incredible day of service! On January 26, 2025, 110 amazing volunteers from First UMC of Coral Gables came together with one mission—to fight hunger! In just two hours, they packed 19,400 meals for Rise Against Hunger, helping to provide nourishment for the hungriest populations in the world.

This is what being the hands and feet of Christ looks like—serving, loving, and making a difference! Thank you to everyone who participated, donated, and prayed for this mission. Your efforts are bringing hope and food to those who need it most. Let’s keep the momentum going as we work toward a world without hunger!

Hurricane tree project • April 2025

For the fourth year in a row, United Women in Faith collected supplies and financial contributions to assemble Hurricane Preparedness Kits for low-income families served by Branches. Each kit included essential items such as flashlights, batteries, solar-powered phone chargers, first aid kits, manual can openers, and more—tools to help families stay safe and prepared in the event of a storm. Thanks to the generosity of our congregation and the dedication of our UWF volunteers, ten fully-stocked hurricane kits were created and distributed! For more information, email Dr. Nora Hernandez Hendrix.

Climate Justice ORCHID Planting Event • saturday, June 14

Church volunteers partnered with Citizens for a Better South Florida to plant native Florida orchids at the Marshall Davis African Heritage Cultural Arts Center in Liberty City. The orchids, purchased from Fairchild Garden’s “Million Orchid Project,” were part of a broader effort to promote climate justice and beautify public spaces. The South East District of United Women in Faith supported the effort with a $300 donation collected during communion. Citizens for a Better South Florida works to educate the community about the importance of native flora in urban landscaping. Check out the photo gallery of the project and see the volunteers in action!
